Linux Local Setup
On Ubuntu or another distribution that uses apt, install the required tools with:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install build-essential gdb git
Test the tools:
g++ --version
make --version
gdb --version
git --version
Chemeketa projects use C++20. Package names and compiler versions vary among Linux distributions. If your compiler cannot build the project, install a newer GCC package using your distribution's instructions.
Install VS Code and extensions
Install
Visual Studio Code using the package
for your distribution. Open the Extensions view with Ctrl+Shift+X and install:
ms-vscode.cpptools
cschlosser.doxdocgen
usernamehw.errorlens
ascholer.chemeketa-gitdoc
davidkaiser.kaiser-project-zip
Configure Git
The git package was installed with the development tools above. Complete the
Git identity setup before starting a local
project.
Verify the complete setup
Create or download a fresh Basic Project, open its entire folder in VS Code, and run the Run Program configuration.
The template's IntelliSense configuration currently names /usr/bin/g++-15. If your
compiler has a different path, use C/C++: Select IntelliSense Configuration in the
Command Palette and select the g++ you installed.
